Sylvan House Toddlers (18 months – 3 years)

Our toddler area offers a warm, caring, fun environment for your toddlers to spread their wings and explore. Your toddler will just love the space and resources we provide for learning and developing while having fun with their peers.

Sylvan House ToddlersToddlers love having lots of fun and they learn by using all of their senses – especially touching and tasting everything!

We have a safe environment for your little adventurer so they can start experimenting with all the messy stuff such as painting, playdough, water and sand play, finger paint and clay. Toddlers also love to climb and test their new found large motor skills. We have a range of equipment such as ladders, boxes and planks just the right size for them (not too big, not too small).

Sylvan House ToddlersIt is also the time when children start to increase their language and begin to build friendships with their peers.

Our staff understand that toddlers want to be independent and do everything by themselves which we support. However, we also appreciate the other side of toddlers where they still need lots of cuddles and one on one time. This is why we run well over the recommended adult/child ratio to allow for these special moments and teaching times.

We supply healthy, nutritious meals for this age group appropriate for their age and stage.

We have a separate sleep room for toddlers to have a peaceful, restful nap. Each child has their own bed and linen that is laundered at least weekly. If they have their own special cuddly, blanket, toy etc we encourage you to bring this with them. At least one staff member will be in the sleep room while putting children to sleep. The children are physically monitored every five minutes.

Please supply your own nappies (disposables or cloth). If your child is beginning the process of toilet training please let us know so we can support and follow through with this at the centre. Toddlers need lots of changes of clothing so please ensure that all items are named so we can identify whose is whose! We also ask that you supply the centre with a named sunhat and winter hat that can stay at the centre.

Sylvan House ToddlersAlmost everything we do at the centre is documented. You can find out how long your child has slept during the day, information on their nappy changes, and what they have eaten for the day. We show you where to find everything on your first visit.

Each child has a portfolio which shows their learning and development through photos, learning stories, observations, child’s voice, adult voice and much more. the children really enjoy looking through these books and can recall special moments and memories. It’s a great keepsake for their 21st Birthday. We follow the New Zealand Early Childhoold Curriculum – Te Whariki. We extend children’s learning through their interests, strengths and capabilities.

We believe communication is the key to a successful partnership with you and your family. This ensures your child has the best possible start to their early education to develop a love for live long learning. Together we can achieve your aspirations for your child’s social and educational potential.
